Sculptra™

Your face is the first thing that people notice about you. But when your appearance no longer reflects how you feel on the inside, it may be time for a change.

In time your skin loses its full, firm, youthful appearance. It becomes loose and starts to wrinkle. Fat tissue which also helps to fill out your face is lost. This reduction in skin volume can make your face look thin and narrow so that you may possibly look older than you are.

Fortunately Sculptra™ can help to smooth out lines and wrinkles and restore the lost volume in a natural way, without the need for surgery. Sculptra™ treatments are immediate and can last from 6-12 months.

How Sculptra™ Works

Sculptra™ works in the lower layers of the skin, smoothing and firming the treated areas of the face. It is an immunologically inert substance therefore no allergy tests are necessary before beginning treatment.

Poly-L-lactic acid, the main ingredient in Sculptra™, has been used successfully in surgical procedures for more than 25 years for such things as bio-resorbable sutures, in bone plates and screws, and as a medium for medication. Sculptra™ has been specially developed to repair contour defects in the face. About 150, 000 patients have been treated since 1999 world-wide.

Generally several treatments can be necessary to obtain the required results. However, in contrast to other treatments which require frequent refresher sessions, after the end of your Sculptra™ programme the results can last up to 2 years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who performs treatment with Sculptra™?

Our resident GP, who has been fully trained to use the correct procedure for Sculptra™ performs the treatment in the clinic.

Does the treatment hurt?

As with all injections you will feel some discomfort. It may be that you notice a brief burning sensation at the injection site. An ice pack applied after the treatment will help to calm your skin. If necessary, our GP can also give you a local anaesthetic.

What must I keep in mind after the treatment?

The doctor will give you special aftercare instructions. These include massaging the treated areas of your face in the first few days after the treatment. All you need is a few minutes twice a day. Inform the doctor if any side effects occur, such as inflammation or small bumps in the treated area.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra™ include injection-related side effects at the site of injection such as bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These effects generally resolve in 2-6 days. One possible delayed side effect with Sculptra™ can be the formation of small bumps under the skin in the treated area. These small bumps may not be visible, and you may notice them only when you press on the treated skin. These bumps tend to form within the first 6 to 12 months after the first treatment. Occasionally, these bumps go away by themselves. Visible bumps, sometimes with redness or colour change to the treated area, have also been reported. As with all procedures that involve an injection through the skin, there is a risk of infection. Report any side effects to the doctor.

Are the results from Sculptra™ immediate?

No. At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra™ worked immediately because of the swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra™. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra™ takes time to work; results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks. Our GP will see you again in a few weeks to decide if you need more Sculptra™ injections.

How much will it cost?

Dermal filler treatments start from £350. All our treatments start with a complimentary consultation to assess your individual needs, your suitability for the treatment and to guide you through the various options, programmes and costs.
